Jake Melksham is a star on the rise. Since being drafted with the 10th overall pick in the 2009 AFL National Draft by Essendon, Jake has shown steady improvement to become a key member of the Bomber’s midfield.

Having grown up in Melbourne’s North West, Jake had a distinguished junior career that saw him included in the AIS-AFL Academy, participate in both the U/16 and U/18 State sides with Victoria Metropolitan and also win two premierships with the Calder Cannon’s in the TAC Cup. It was in the second of these premierships with Calder that Jake was adjudged Best on Ground with brilliant performance against Dandenong.

Jake’s journey has not been without its share of difficulties, having had to overcome Osteitis Pubis which threatened his career at a young age. It is from this experience that Jake can advise aspiring athletes on the need to adequately prepare their bodies to prevent injuries, manage training loads and deal with disappointments that arise during a player’s career. Jake will also provide invaluable insights for players on the latest skill development techniques and information on how to train and prepare for games.
